My theory:
If you would have put your hand up, about half the class would have done the exact same thing.

you know how to disarm a classroom full of college students? raise your hand, and when the professor calls on you, say "can i have a hall pass? i need to do tinkles."
and try to do it in the middle of a long lecture -- midsentence if possible.
