school & work.
for my criminal justice class, we have to complete two informational interviews. i chose the peace officer on campus because she was easy. haha, she was easy! ahem. i chose her because i wouldn't have to drive to the courts a half hour away, and because she and i have struck up random conversations in the early morning hours. nice lady.
the instructor specified that we were to interview somebody in the area we would like to enter, but i didn't go that route. i think my impressive writing skills (at least in assignment form) will distract him from my small tweak of the assignment. anyway! the peace officer, karen, and i got to talking about kids and where i would like to go with my career. i explained how i don't consider preschool teaching a career in itself. maybe i am devaluing the job's importance and impact, and maybe this is more personal than anything else. i didn't see myself moving anywhere within the field, thus it was more a job than a career for me.
i went on to tell her about my aspirations of becoming either a child advocate or social worker. and she gave me a TON of contact information for people in the field! including my own criminal justice instructor, who just so happens to be an expert in juvenile courts and procedure.
i am pretty darn excited. the contacts will teach me about the field and point me in the right direction. i am already working towards my children in the justice system certificate, and could very well be moving towards an internship in the field as well. v. v. v. V. exciting!!
this, after a couple quality conversations with two of my instructors this week and extra credit completed in a third class.
Projected grades for the semester:
Child Psych -- A
English -- A or B
Criminal Justice -- A
Math -- maybe an A?! (or maybe not. we'll see.)
Not too shabby for a girl who hasn't completed a semester of school in, like, 43 years.
